Kirsch, 93, died at home October 7, 2003 following a brief illness. She was born March 7, 1910 in Canute, Oklahoma to Charles Jasper Yarbrough and Maude Alice Phipps Yarbrough. She spent her early years in western Oklahoma communities, including Leedy and Elk City. While still a teenager, she was an organist in the church where her father served as Sunday School teacher. She relocated to Oklahoma City in 1928 and took her first job at Kaiser's Ice Cream Parlor. Over the years she worked as a waitress, secretary and property manager. Her husband John J. Kirsch was a homebuilder in central Oklahoma. Lela and John also owned and worked a farm near Spencer, Oklahoma for many years. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband John; brothers Floyd and August Yarbrough; sisters Thelma Barton, Ruby Yarbrough, and Lavenia Bennett; and nieces Wanda Parnell and Phoebe Ann Harless. She is survived by sisters Oletha Newman of Elk City, and Thelma Lee Young and husband William of Oklahoma City; nieces Yvonne Mounce of Norman, Alma Jean Shuck of Capistrano Beach, California, and Carolyn Kennedy of Mesquite, Texas; and nephews Charles E. Newman of Paradise, Texas, and Billy Young of Oklahoma City. She is also survived by many great nieces and nephews. The family expresses thanks to caregiver Maxine Holloway; longtime friends Twila and Bill Guthrie; the staffs of VistaCare Hospice, Care Plus and Home Instead; and Lela's medical team at St. Anthony Hospital.
