Http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.Htm ===================================================================== ::Hillcrest Memorial Park--Bakersfield CA The Bakersfield Californian Vernie Gillum Koegler October 26, 1919 March 26, 2001 Services: Fri., March 30, 10 a.m. Chapel Services wil be held on Friday, March 30, 2001, 10:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Kern Canyon Road and Viewing will be Thursday, March 29, from 4p.m.-8 p.m. for Vernie Gillum Koegler who passed away at her home with her family by her side on Monday, March 26, 2001. Vernie had fought a 37 year courageous battle with cancer. Pastor Rick Gilbertson of the Central Baptist Church will officiate. Vernie was born in Cloud Chief, Oklahoma on October 26, 1919 to Tom and Alice Gillum, moving to Bakersfield, California in 1939 and establishing her own accounting business, which she operated for 60 years. Vernie married Joe Koegler in May 1946. Joe preceded her in death on March 1, 1994. Vernie had been very active with Central Baptist Church for the last 30 years; teaching Sunday School and volunteering her time endlessly. Vernie is survived by sisters and brother: Thelma Caraker, Jessie Sheets and Tag Gillum; nephews and nieces: Tom and Kandice Sheets, Billy Joe and Laura Sheets, Jim and Lesley Horton, Shannon and Eric Boren, Shelly Sheets, Ryan Sheets, Wesley Sheets, Sean Sheets and Shane Sheets. Pallbearers will be Ryan, Wesley, Sean and Shane Sheets, Eric Boren and John Robinson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tom Sheets, Billy Joe Sheets, Jim Horton and Tom Tierney. A Special Thanks to the following friends for all their help and support of Vernie: Fern Weller, Larona Beddingfield, Bernice Brown, Marlene Starr, and Helen Ezell. The family also wishes to thank: Dr. Hansa and his staff, as well as Hoffman Hospice (Sheila, Maureen, Francis and Lori) for all their care and concern in Vernies final days.
