She passsed away February 26, 2007 at Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of 94 years, 4 months 21 days. Dorothy graduated from Dill City High School and attended Oklahoma A&M. She was married by her father, Rev. E.D. Walker, to William David Lakey at the Dill City Baptist Church between Sunday School and morning worship on December 25, 1932. Dorothy was instrumental in various civic projects. She was co-founder (weth Sayre Jayce) of the Miss Sayre Pagent and served as director for the first nine years. She has been a member of the As you Like It, the En Avant, Sorosis, and Self Culture Clubs, having served as president of each. She also served on the Sayre Public Library Board. Dorothy had also been active with the PTA and had seved as HomeRoom Mother for all of her children. She was an active member of the Sayre First Baptist Church where she faithfully held positions in Sunday School and Choir. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 brothers and 3 sisters. She is survived by her 1 daughter, Phyllis Lakey Welk and husband, Bill of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, William David, Jr., and Chris Lakey, Eddie Tom and Marinita Lakey, Robert and Sue Lakey, all of Sayre; 1 sister, Joy Walker, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 10 grandchildren, DeAnn Lakey, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Cara Lynn Wynn, Edmond, Oklahoma; Candace Hines, Sayre, Oklahoma; Eddie Tom Lakey, II, Sayre, Oklahoma; Jenny West, Amarillo, Texas; Shawn Welk, Washington, D.C.; Christa Wright, Frisco, Texas; David Welk, Norman, Oklahoma; Jamie Lakey, Sayre, Oklahoma; Lindsay Northcutt, Fayetteville, AR; 10 great grandchildren, Jordy, Jonathan and James Wynn, Hunter and Bethany Hines; Bayler Lakey, Lawson Lakey, Rebekah West, Luke West; Carter Wright, an a host of relatives and friends. Services were held on Thursday, March 1, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sayre First Baptist Church with her son, Robert Lakey officiating and assisted by Brother Gary Baird. Interment will be in Sayre Doxey Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Services, Sayre.
