She departed this life July 1, 2002 at Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City at the age of 96 years, six months and 28 days. Lucy moved to southeastern Oklahoma with her family as a small child. They then moved to a farm in Washita County. She was united in marriage to John William (J.W.) Lair April 23, 1932 at Cordell. They farmed northeast of Cowden until 1959 when they moved to Cordell. She moved to the assisted living nursing home in Mustang in 1997. Lucy lived a long and happy life. She was always optimistic, quick witted and remained alert until her death. A member of the Church of Christ, Lucy loved the Lord and enjoyed her church family, family and friends. Her favorite pastimes were crocheting and sewing. Preceding her in death were her parents, Lizzie and Gentry Sanders; four brothers, Floyd, Roy, Eugene and John Sanders; three sisters, Mildred See, Emma Dickerson and Effie Sanders; step son, Carl Lair; and her husband, J.W. Lair who died November 9, 1974. Survivors unclude two step daughters, Edith Bales and Estelle Greene; and a number of step grandchildren; and six generations of nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be made to the Cordell Christian Home. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 3 at 2:00 at the Church of Christ in Cordell with Bill Oden officiating. Interment, under the direction of McClure Funeral Home, followed in Alfalfa Cemetery.
