Lary Keith Martin was born in Foss, Oklahoma, on November 14, 1939. He moved to Pinedale, California, in 1955, with his father, mother, brother, and sister. One year later the family moved to Madera. Lary was a graduate of Madera Union High School with the Class of 1957. Lary enlisted in the U.S. Navy on November 26, 1957, and served honorably as a seaman on the U.S.S. Washburn AKA-108. He was honorably discharged on February 24, 1960. Lary attended barber college shortly after leaving the Navy and held a license for about 40 years, barbering at various barber shops including both Raul's and Ruben's Barbershops in Madera. He was the Safety Director for Continental Trailways in South San Francisco in the late 1960's through the mid 1970's. Along with a very successful career in transportation, Lary was a very established musician playing steel guitar with a local band. Lary was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Cleo Martin; and his daughter, LaDonna Marie Martin. He is survived by Margie Martin, his wife of 17 years; his mother, Vera Mae Martin, both of Madera; and his three sons, Mark Martin of San Francisco, California, Lary Martin, Jr. and Robert Martin Sr., both of Fresno. He is the brother of Elvin Martin and Ruth Upton, both of Madera; and the grandfather of Lary Martin, III, and Robert Martin, Jr. Visitation will be held at Jay Chapel on Monday, January 29, 2007, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be at The Yosemite Christian Center located at 1201 E. Yosemite Avenue in Madera on Tuesday, January 30, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Arbor Vitae Cemetery in Madera.
