All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== :: McWhirter, Alvis Verlin Alvis Verlin, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend went to be with his Heavenly Father on February 6, 2003. He was born in Sentinel, Oklahoma on January 16, 1925, the older of two sons, to Aldeen Keener and Versie Lowe McWhirter. With his brother, Gerald, he founded J & M Roofing Company in 1957 and retired from there after more than 40 years. Finding retirement unfulfilling, he was instrumental in starting another successful business, Powder Coatings Plus, where he served for several years as the Managing Partner. He and his wife, Jeane, spent many happy times traveling as members of the Rollin' Okies Motor Home Club. He was a Christian and had served as a Deacon for many years at the 12th & Drexel Church of Christ. At the time of his death he attended the Seminole Point Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, the former Jeane Howell, his children Deborah and Bill Bruce of Oklahoma City and Jim and Lisa McWhirter of Choctaw, his brother, Gerald and Sally McWhirter of Oklahoma City and brother-in- law Tom and Judy Howell of Guthrie. Fondly known as Paw Paw, he is also survived by his grandchildren Deena and John Warner, Tara and Brandon Schneider, Cory and Amy Bruce, Marci and Josh Simmons and Scott McWhirter, Paw Paw will also be greatly missed by his great- grandchildren Sheena Jeane, Kelsee Louise, Clancy Verlin, and Rylee Jo as well as a host of other family and lifelong friends. The family wishes to acknowledge the services of Hospice of Oklahoma County and the loving assistance of special nieces and nephews, Kathy, Phil and Lynn Newsom and Brandon, Leslie and Ethan Hughes. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 7, 2003 at Vondel Smith North. Services will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. also at Vondel Smith North.
