All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Oak Hill Memorial Park--San Jose CA Willie Floyd Melvin Oct. 10, 1912 - Feb. 23, 2007 Born on October 10, 1912 in Canute, Oklahoma and entered into rest on February 23, 2007 at the age of 94. Willie Floyd, a long time resident of Campbell, leaves behind his loving wife of 63 years, Sadie Mai, his children and their families; Johnnie (Pamela) Melvin of Saratoga, Josephine Kinzel of Gilroy and Carolyn (Ted) Myers of Los Altos. Willie has eight grandchildren who loved him very much; Ashley Tognetti, Aaron Kinzel, Taryn (Ryan) Macartney, Zachary Melvin, Lindsay Myers, Sammy Myers, Mckenna Melvin, Billy (Trina) Melvin; and Willie also has five great-grandchildren; Leah and Dean Tognetti, Owen Macartney, Johnnie and Karson Melvin, and a sixth on the way. Willie Floyd was a valedictorian of his class at Canute High School. He was later educated at Kirksville Teachers College in Missouri on the GI Bill. Willie served in the army during WWII. He was a technician 4th grade in the Engineer Combat Battalion. He earned a Good Conduct Medal and a Victory Medal. He was also a farmer for the first 25 years and then a pipe fitter and plumber. He built two family homes and was a foreman for large construction projects in the Santa Clara Valley as the valley grew in the 60's and 70's. He was a member of the Plumber's Union, Local 393, earning him a 50 Year pin. Willie Floyd enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved reading, working, planting his garden every year, working in his garage, watching westerns, being a handyman for neighbors and friends, and watching his grandchildren play ball and other activities. Willie Floyd was one of ten children born to Morris and Maggie Mae Melvin. Five of Willie's brothers and one sister are deceased. His sister, Beatrice of Anaheim, brothers, Murray Melvin of San Bernardino and Morris Melvin of Bakersfield, survives him. Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Roses, Oak Hill Funeral Home. Internment will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Autism Research Institute, 4182 Adams Ave., San Diego, CA 92116.
