Http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.Htm ===================================================================== ::Greenlawn Memorial Park--Bakersfield CA Nobles, Hortense Hortense Nobles Feb. 28, 1914 - June 3, 2007 Greenlawn Mortuary Memorial services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 1705 17th Street, on Friday, June 8, 2007, at 11:00 a.m., for Hortense Nobles. Private family interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 3700 River Blvd. Mrs. Nobles was born to Kate and Homer Evetts in Weeks, Arkansas on February 28, 1914. Hortense was a graduate of Panhandle A+M and Southwestern State Teachers College in Oklahoma. She taught elementary school for 11 years in Oklahoma. During that time she was honored as Outstanding Teacher of Washita County, Oklahoma. She married Ray, her childhood friend and sweetheart in 1940. Ray and Hortense continued to teach in Oklahoma until WWII. After the war they moved to Bakersfield where Hortense taught 30 years with Panama and Lakeside Union School Districts. Hortense gave her heart to Jesus as a youth. When Ray and Hortense moved to Bakersfield they became active members of the First Presbyterian Church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crafts, cooking and serving others. We will always remember her prayers, her devotion to the Lord, and her dedication to family and friends. She will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; brothers, Erick, Harold, George and twin brother, Hoke. She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Nobles of Columbia, MD, Paula Crissman and husband, Paul of Bakersfield and Alysia Newmark and husband, Gary of Clovis, CA; grandchildren, Robb Walt of Denver, CO, Melissa Jensen and husband, Brian of San Jose, CA, Sarah and Chris Newmark of Clovis, CA. Special thanks to the caring staff of Glenwood Gardens SNF and Optimal Hospice. In lieu of flowers donations in Hortense Nobles' name may be made to the library of First Presbyterian Church, Bakersfield, CA. Visitation will begin Thursday, June 7, from 2-8:00 p.m., at Greenlawn Memorial Chapel.
