All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Llano Cemetery--Amarillo TX Verna Lee Pumphrey Verna Lee Pumphrey of Amarillo, died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Colonial Funeral Chapel, 1010 W. Ninth Ave., with the Rev. David L. Evans officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mrs. Pumphrey was born in Foss, Okla., and moved to Amarillo in 1941 from Pampa. She received her bachelor's degree from Phillips University and her master's degree from West Texas State University. She was a school teacher who taught in the Amarillo public schools and at St. Joseph's Catholic School. Mrs. Pumphrey was a member of First Baptist Church, a life member of Order of Eastern Star, life member of Texas Congress of Parent Teachers Association, life member of Retired Teachers and a member of the Amarillo Study Club. She married Otis R. Pumphrey in 1922 at Wewoka, Okla. He died in 1944. Survivors include a son, Dick Pumphrey of Amarillo; a grandson, Chris Pumphrey; and a great-grandson. The family suggest memorials be to building fund of First Baptist Church. Viewing will be from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
