All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Laurel Land Memorial Park--Ft Worth TX Spoon, Veda Mae 1920 - 2005 Veda Mae Spoon, 85, a retired musician, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2005, in Burleson. Funeral: Noon Friday in Laurel Land Chapel of Chimes. Burial: Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Laurel Land Funeral Home of Fort Worth. Veda Mae was born April 7, 1920, in Cordell, Okla. She was only 15 when she started singing and playing steel guitar at the Fort Worth Blackstone Hotel. She also played on radio stations WBAP and KGKO. In 1941, at WBAP, she played with the Texas Cowgirls and later shared the stage with Willie Nelson. She toured the United States for several years with Billie Gayle and the Hollywood Cowgirls. She was a caregiver for many family members. Veda was preceded in death by her parents, D.J. "Doc" and Sadie Eichor; and one sister, Evelyn Hankins. Survivors: Sister, Marguerite Whitehead of Burleson; nieces, Rita Hickman of Kempner, Janis Rayburn of Fort Worth and Dana Whitehead of Mansfield; nephews, Clay Whitehead of Burleson and Danny Hankins of Fort Worth; special friend, Beatrice Finstad; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
