Dave leaves many special nieces and nephews and their lovely children and a very special bunch of "Kissin'" first and second cousins. A lovely little girl named Alyssa (Ally) Young captured Dave's heart and chose to be his grandchild and call him grandpa in absence of Dave's brother Bobbie Young. Dave enjoyed the companionship of his beloved Yorkie, Daisy. To Dave, family followed his love for the Lord. He often quoted a verse from Proverbs 17:6, "Children's children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children," and he knew a man was blessed for knowing his grandchildren, and that the Lord took him down one more pathway and gave him the awesome pleasure of knowing his great-grandchildren. Dave loved the Lord and loved teaching His Word at church and home where he held Bible Study. He had a strong Ministry and felt privileged to teach the Lord's Word. His family received many blessings throughout his life and were provided the opportunity to share in his wisdom, invaluable advice, great stories, and unique sense of humor. Dave had a rich family history in the Masonic Lodge, was a Past Patron of the Order of The Eastern Star in Atascadero, CA, and a member of the Atascadero Free and Accepted Masonic Lodge #493. His grandfather, Henry David Young, was a 33rd Degree Mason in Cordell, OK and inducted into the Washita County Hall of Fame on May 2, 1992, during the Centennial Award Ceremony. It was through Dave that his father-in-law, Herbert Lawrence Taylor became a Mason in Salinas, CA. Dave was an Ombudsman and enjoyed performing various volunteer work, and during his lifetime, served on numerous committees that he enjoyed. There wasn't a task Dave couldn't do once he set his mind to it. Dave and his family farmed Kiwi fruit in the Old River area from 1976 until 1991. He loved gardening, farming, camping, and had "Yummy" culinary skills. His children and grandchildren will forever remember the joy he took in preparing his spaghetti, chili beans, and wonderful varieties of homemade "soup." ALL of his children and grandchildren will cherish the annual camping trips to the Coast and all of the storytelling around the campfires at night. Dave was a wonderful storyteller and entertained his children and grandchildren at family gatherings with many a tale, some true and some not so true! He used to say he got his keen sense of humor from his Uncle Barlow Coe from Oklahoma. Following a public service at Greenlawn Southwest with family and friends, Dave will be laid to rest in a private ceremony on the Hill of Valor, Hillcrest Memorial Park, Bakersfield, California. A special thank you to Drs. Robert Laughlin, Peter Nalos and Robert Catania, all wonderfully skilled and compassionate doctors. Thanks also go to Optimal Home Health Care and Hoffmann Hospice.
