John C. and Osie (Peters) Baxter, was born July 25, 1926, in Dacoma, Oklahoma, and passed away Jan. 28, 2004, after a sudden illness at Share Medical Center in Alva, Oklahoma. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Ruth Henderson, Georgia James, Jesse Percival, Iva Harder, and Osie May Barnes. Johnny is survived by his wife, Ruth, of Alva; four sons, Dan Baxter and his wife, Carolyn, of Claremore, Darrell Baxter and his wife, Sharon, of Madison, Ala., Merle Baxter and his wife, Jackie, of Tulsa, and Mike Baxter and his wife, Julie, of Smyrna, Tenn.; one daughter, Beverly Baxter of Kansas City, Mo.; and one sister Naomi Stites of Canyon City, Colorado. Also surviving are six grandchildren, John Baxter and his wife, Leah, of Broken Arrow, Phillip Baxter of Madison, Ala., Stephanie Baxter of Madison, Ala., Clinton Baxter of Jenks, Lauren Baxter of Jenks, Jillian Smith of Jenks, Brandon Baxter of Smyrna, Tenn., and Ryan Baxter of Smyrna, Tenn.; other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, January 30, 2004, at the Alva Assembly of God Church with Rev. Mark Bagley officiating. Interment will be in the Alva Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva.
