All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Bakersfield Californian Jesse Orville Bliss Services: Wed., Sept. 5, 2 p.m. Graveside Masonic services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park today at 2 p.m. for Jesse O. Bliss, 85, who passed away August 31, 2001 in Bakersfield. Born May 28, 1916 in Lookout, Oklahoma, Jesse was a graduate of Freedom High School and attended Business College in Wichita, Kansas. He joined the U.S. Army in 1942, serving his country as a Sergeant in Germany during World War II. In 1946 he moved to Bakersfield and married Helen Anita Mason of Roanoke, Virginia. Together they owned and operated the J.B. Market in Oildale, CA from 1953-1976. Jesse was a member and twice commander of American Legion Post #682, a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post #1468 and was also a member of the Meudell-Oildale Masonic Lodge #695, Scottish Rite, Kern County Shriners and California Al Malaikah Temple. Jesse is survived by his wife, Helen; daughter, Vicki French of Petaluma, CA; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Matt Hart; and granddaughters, Kristin and Meghan Hart of Visalia, CA; brother, Vernon W. Bliss of Freedom, OK; numerous nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends. Jesse, a very devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, will be greatly missed by all. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or Shriners Hospital for Children.
