J. Weegie Williams, Pastor First United Methodist Church, officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Oklahoma National Guard Alva Unit Co. B 1st Bn. 179 Inf. Interment follows in the Alva Municipal Cemetery Wharton Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may by made online at www.whartonfuneralchapel.com Thomas Elmer, son of Esther (Wilkins) and Gilbert E. Derrickson, was born April 26, 1946 at Licking, Missouri. He passed away at the Share Medical Center on the 11th of April at the age of 58 years, 11 months, and 15 days. Tom graduated from Licking High School with the Class of 1964. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving overseas in Vietnam. On December 20, 1969 he married June Hult at Bradley Beach, New Jersey. Following their marriage they lived in New Jersey and he worked with computers in New York City. On May 26, 1973, Tom married Louella Oldaker at Licking, Missouri. He worked with his mother and brother at the Licking News and as a weekend announcer at KTTR in Rolla, Missouri. He then moved to Paducah, Kentucky to work for a printing firm for a few years. In 1980, he moved to Alva, Oklahoma, to work as the pressman for the Newsgram and as an announcer at KALV. He became responsible for printing the Alva Review-Courier when the newspaper was purchased by family members in 1990. Tom was a quiet man who was known by his friends and family for his quirky sense of humor, his honesty, kindness and loyalty. Tom was preceded in death by his parents. Tom is survived by his beloved companion, Nona Moore of Alva; his two daughters, Kelley Gordon of Nickerson, Kansas, and Rhonda and her husband Jason Norton of Murphy, Texas; two grandchildren, Rosalee and Devin Gordon; a sister and her husband, Marione and Lynn Martin of Alva, Oklahoma; a brother and his wife, Gene and Glenna, of Licking, Missouri; Nona's children, Robert Shiplet, James Shiplet, and Victor Englett, all of Alva, Sunshine Sanchez of Altus, and Amber Englett of Lahoma; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Contributions may be made in his memory to the Disabled American Veterans.
