DEATH CLAIMS ALVA PIONEER Mary MacGruder's Rites Sunday One of Alva's oldest pioneers, Mrs. Mary E. MacGruder, 89, died at 6:15 a.m. today in the Alva General Hospital, following confinement after breaking a leg April 8. Mrs. MacGruder had lived in Alva since about 1900 and came here with her husband when the strip opened. Her husband was Nim MacGruder, court bailiff for years. Mrs. MacGruder had been extremely active in the Eastern Star organization for many years and was once grand matron. She was also a member of the G.A.R. Circle and was honored two years ago when a flag was presented to the district court room that had belonged to her husband. Funeral services have been set for 1:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the First Baptist church. The Alva Eastern Star will have charge of part of the services and buirial will be in the A.O.U.W. Cemetery. Survivors are a sister, Mrs. W.E. Cross of Alva and the following nephews and nieces: J.H. MacGruder of Pratt, Kansas; George MacGruder fo Wichita; H.S. Pieniets of Pratt; Mrs. R.B. Sanders of Pratt; Mrs. F.O. Ladd of Cairo, Kansas; Mrs. E.B. Sitton of Wichita and Mrs. C.W. MacGruder, 89, will be held at 1:30 o'clock today at the First Baptist church with the Eastern Star organization in charge of part of the services. Mrs. F.M. Woodson, acting worthy matron, of the order, asked all Eastern Stars to meet at the Masonic hall at 1 o'clock today in order to attend the funeral services. The Fowitz funeral home is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in the A.O.U.W.
