Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Marshall Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mel Brown officiating. Burial will be in Preston Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Melkus was born in Woods County, Okla., and attended Farry School. She was a longtime resident of Freedom where she helped her husband farm. She was a member of Woods County Mineral Owners Association, the Cattlemen's Association, a lifetime member of Rebekah Lodge and a lifetime member of Cimarron Cowboys Association. She married Alba C. Melkus in 1934 at Alva. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Keith Melkus of Larnard, Kan., Francis Melkus of Amarillo and Lowell Melkus of Freedom; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and special friends, Harold and Sharon Snow and Mary Snow. The family suggests memorials be to Freedom Fire Department or the Cimarron Cowboys Association and may be made through the funeral home.
