The Revs. John Clapp and Bob Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Manila Cemetery. Arrangements are by Marshall Funeral Home, Alva. He was born March 25, 1917, in Byron to Sol and Minnie Mock Riggins and died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, at Woodward Regional Hospital. He attended school in McWillie, Helena, Carmen, Tonkawa and Dacoma. He enlisted in the Marine Corps Nov. 19, 1943, training at Camp Pendleton in California. He was a sharpshooter in his division, serving in Iwo Jima, where he was wounded. He received the Purple Heart and a Letter of Commendation and was honorably discharged Nov. 23, 1945. He married Betty Ruth Golbek Dec. 24, 1949, in Avard. He worked for several farmers and Ansden Lumber Yard. He also helped construct the fence around the air base north of Pratt, Kan. He worked for 33 years as a carpenter at Egner Cabinet Shop. Following retirement, he continued to repair and refinish furniture. Surviving are his wife, Betty, of Alva; two sons, Allen of Broken Bow, and Fred of Alva; two daughters, Jeannie Smith of Alva, and Catherine Valencia of Arkansas City, Kan.; one brother, Luke Riggins of Enid; a sister, Elvina Ross of Apopha, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and nine great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death two brothers, one sister, and one great- granddaughter. Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Generations at Woodward Regional Hospital.
