Vandruff, 73, passed away in Alfalfa County Hospital, Cherokee, on Tuesday evening. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 20, in the First United Methodist Church with Dr. William E. Chace officiating. Interment will be in the Cherokee Municipal Cemetery under the direction of the Grapes Funeral Home. He was born February 14, 1909 at Hopeton, Oklahoma, the son of Jesse and Adia Vandruff. He attended the Keystone and Lambert schools and graduated from the Lambert High School. He was united in marriage with Lucille Ashcroft of Carmen, at Alva, on September 2, 1929. They established their home in the Carmen community until moving to Cherokee in 1937 where he was self-employed as a carpenter and cabinet maker. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Lucille, of the home; one daughter, Earline (Mrs. Alfred) Schmersey of Wichita, Kan.; one son, Leon C. Vandruff of Stillwater; three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Foust of Chillicothe, Mo.; Mrs. Dora Fox of Alva; and Mrs. Ruth Miller of Garden Grove, Calif.; three brothers, Clarence Vandruff of Alva; Ben Vandruff of Phoenix, Ariz.; and Jess Vandruff of Long Beach, Calif.; and five grandchildren. A memorial has been established in his memory to the First United Methodist Church in Cherokee.
