John Horstman Sr.

John Dee Horstman Sr. of Eugene died Oct. 9. He was 73. The family 
chose not to list the cause of death. No service is planned.

Horstman was born Oct. 28, 1930, in Mooreland, Okla., to Tom and 
Maggie Garnard Horstman. He married Anna Burke in 1954 in Arizona. 
The couple later divorced.

He was educated in Oklahoma and Arizona and moved from Arizona to 
Eugene in 1968. He had worked as a deputy sheriff and a painting 
contractor. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include five sons, John Jr. of Clackamas, Richard, Kenny 
and Eddie, all of Seattle and David of Sturgis, Mich.; a daughter, 
Carolyn Hartgraves of Prineville; three stepsons, Tim LeCompte of 
Edmunds, Wash., Jeff LeCompte of Kennewick, Wash., and Cliff LeCompte 
of Renton, Wash.; two stepdaughters, Virginia Delay of Tukwila, 
Wash., and Jane LeCompte of Des Moines, Wash.; a brother, Jim, of 
California; two sisters, Jennie Donaldson of Arizona and Ida May of 
Pennsylvania; 19 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. A son, Tom, 
died previously.

Poole-Larsen Funeral Home of Eugene is in charge of arrangements.
