All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Cheyenne Cemetery--Cheyenne OK Surnames: Joyce, Ruckner, Medley Originally posted at: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.oklahoma.counties.rogermills/8256/mb.ashx Mrs. Katie Joyce, daughter of W.?. and Julia Ruckner, was born May 19, 1864 at Fort Richardson, near Jacksboro, Texas, and departed this life Friday, A, 1944 at Fort Supply, Oklahoma, at the age of 80 years, 2 months and 16 days. She spent her early childhood at the place of her birth. Her mother, father and two sisters passed awsay March 3, 1881 of black smallpox. Only four children of the family survived. She spent the next two years with a married sister. On June 5, 1883, she was united in marriae with J.J. Joyce at Mobettie, Texas where they resided until 1893. Moving then to Cheyenne, Oklahoma at the opening of the Cheyenne-Arapaho country. They lived in Cheyenne about five years then homesteaded a place eleven miles southeast of Cheyenne where they lived until Mr. Joyce's death in 1916. She lived with her children from then until her illness. Being a pioneer, she knew many hardshps but made the best of them in a true pioneer spirit. She was a faithful companion and a good mother. She joined the Church of Christ when a young girl and lived a true christian life until the end. Three children preceded her in death Two sons and a daughter mourn her passing, George of Los Angeles, California, Jasper of Elk City, and Mrs. Cornelia Medley, also of Elk City. Twelve grandchildren and eleven great granddchildren also survive. She was laid to rest beside her beloved husband in the Cheyenne cemetery at Cheyenne, Oklahoma. Rev. Otis Camp, pastor of the Church of Christ here officiating with Martin-Hullum funeral directors in charge of arrangements.
