Co. of Chicago. page 275 Leander Fergason The parents of our subject, Alexander and Elizabeth (Baker) Fergason, natives of Canada, came soon after their marriage to this country and settled first in New York, whence they came to Oregon in 1866, settling first here in the Grande Ronde valley. Later they removed to Eagle valley and in that place they both departed from the labors of this life, the mother at the age of sixty- five years and the father at the age of ninety years. Our subject was born in New York in the year 1830, and he continuously remained with his parents until the time of their death, serving faithfully and exemplifying in a commendable manner that beautiful word of command, "Honor thy father and thy mother." After their demise, he removed from the old place to his present home on Goose creek in the lower valley of the Powder river, where he owns a quarter section and follows general farming and stock raising. His residence is twenty-one northeast from Baker City. Mr. Mr. Fergason we have one of those men who admire the principles of the grand old Jeffersonian Democracy and stand by it with the fervor and energy that produce conviction that its principles are sound and its teachings are deep and trustworthy. In political matters he has always shown a marked activity and is careful to maintain the part of a good citizen in the attention paid to the same. Mr. Fergason has never chosen a partner to share the joys and shades of life's way, preferring to remain with the joys of the single state. He is now passing the golden years of his life in the quiet prosecution of the affairs connected with his estate and is respected and esteemed by all that have the pleasure of his acquaintance.
