He was born in the vicinity of Denver, Colorado, on the 10th of February, 1863, and in 1870 he accompanied his parents thence to Nevada, from which state they later journeyed to Utah and thence to California. Our subject's father, who was a veteran of the Mexican war, and one of the original Gilpin county miners, was engaged for several years int he Golden state in endeavoring to win from Mother Earth her hidden treasure. In that state Mr. Geiser completed his education, which had been begun in Colorado, graduating from the high school in Oakland. He then joined his father in the mining pursuit, continuing in the same in that state until 1881, when he came to Baker county, resolved to try his fortune in the rich gold fields of this region. He worked several quartz mines in the section, and eventually, with his mother and sisters, became interested in the Bonanza mine. His progress since coming to the county has been uninterrupted, and he is now an owner or part owner of several dividend-paying mines, among them the Brazos, situated southeast of Baker City, over the company owning which, he presides; the Keystone Bell and the Gold Boy, with headquarters at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; the Pyx, in the Bonanza district, with a five-stamp mill; and the Greenhow or Worley mine. He is also a director in the Baker City Gas & Electric Company; also owns the Geiser Grand hotel and other valuable property in the city. Though interested in so many other lines of activity, he is one of the most prominent large contractors in eastern Oregon. In fraternal connection, our subject is a leading Mason, belonging to all the degrees of that order except the thirty-third, and he likewise belongs to the K. of P. and the B.P.O.E. He was married, in Baker county, on December 19, 1894, to Miss Bernice Dodson, daughter of Henry Dodson, who at one time was school superintendent of Grant county. They have two children, Annie and Edward. One of the leading achievements of Mr. Geiser, in the county, has been the developing and bringing out of the Bonzana mine, which he operated from 1891 to 1898, when he sold it.
