GRABNER The enterprising and successful farmer and stock raiser whose career it is now our task to outline was born in Waterloo, Iowa, on April 10, 1858, the son of George P. and Ermina Grabner. When a child he was taken by his parents to Austin, Nevada, whence in 1862 the family moved to Virginia City. Here our subject spent the ensuing eighteen years of his life, attending school during its sessions until he became sixteen years old, when he entered upon an apprenticeship to the trade of an iron molder. For a while after completing his apprenticeship he worked as a miner, but eventually he came via San Francisco and Portland to Baker county, Oregon, where he has since made his home. In due time he acquired two hundred and forty acres of excellent land one and a half miles southeast of Express, and to the cultivation and improvement of this he has given himself with diligence and assiduity with the result that it has long since been brought to a high state of cultivation and made to yield the rich harvests of which it is capable. Mr. Grabner raises about three hundred tons of hay each year, which he feeds to his own stock. He is justly considered one of the most energetic and prosperous agriculturists in his section, and as a man and citizen his standing is an enviable one. The marriage of our subject was duly solemnized on April 22, 1883, when Miss Georgia A., daughter of Joseph and Justina Prescott, and a native of Iowa, became his wife. The issue of their union is three children, Martin A., deceased; Abbie Gertrude, and Jennie Edna, both attending the public school. Mr. Grabner is a charter member of the K. of P., Triumph Lodge, No. 80, being also vice chancellor of the order.
