Co. of Chicago. GEORGE R. HODGINS Across the waters, in the little Emerald Isle, that has been the home of some of the greatest men that have graced the human race, we find the birth place of Mr. Hodgins, and the memorable 1849 is the year of his nativity. While still a child he was brought by his parents to London, Canada, where he received his educational discipline and where he also learned the prince of all trades, the blacksmith's, having completed it when he was seventeen years of age, thus demonstrating both his ability and his energy. His first move was to Michigan, where he followed his trade for three years, then he came to Boise City in 1869 and there continued in same occupation until he came to Baker county in 1876. One year later he migrated to Arizona and wrought in Phoenix and Prescott until 1881, then returned to Wingville, opened there a shop and beat the anvil to the time of honest industry until 1887. At that date he entered into partnership with John M. Rohner and opened a butcher shop and grocery store in Wingville, which business they prosecuted together until the fall of 1893, when they sold it out and took up stock raising and farming together. They own about four hundred acres of land, which is well improved and operated to the best advantage. Mr. Hodgins is road supervisor in his district at the present time and has held the responsible position of justice of the peace and in all these public positions he has shown both ability and integrity. On November 1, 1881, Mr. Hodgins married Miss Trena, daughter of Jacob and Anna Rohner, who came here with her parents from Switzerland. They have become the parents of one child that died in infancy. Mr. Hodgins is a member of the I.O.O.F. (International Order of Odd Fellows), Wingville Lodge, No. 69, and also of the W. of W. (Woodmen of World), as well as of the Encampment No. 8. In religious affairs he is affiliated with the Methodist church, South, and has been very active in church work all the years of his life. At the present time he is superintendent of the Sunday-school and has been for fifteen years, having given much time to this work and making a fine success in his endeavors. Mr. Hodgkins is associated with the Democratic party in political matters and takes an active interest in county and state affairs. --End--
