Co. of Chicago. page 333 L. S. Kelsey [Lorenzo Sheets Kelsey, per other sources] Mr. Kelsey was born in Tooele county, Utah, on January 21, 1855. He resided there until the fall of 1879, receiving his education in the local public schools and developing his bodily powers by hard and invigorating exercise on the farm. In the year mentioned he came to Baker county and settled on the North Powder river, seven miles north of where Haines now is, and to his original homestead he has kept adding betimes, as means came as a reward of his well directed efforts, until he is now the owner of a princely domain of two thousand acres. He is the owner of a fine band of graded Shorthorn cattle, consisting of about two hundred head, likewise is interested in the production of many different kinds of agricultural products, especially hay. He also owns some very promising mining properties. Honored for his forcefulness and ability in business, Mr. Kelsey is no less honored as a worthy member of society, his unvarying integrity and many other good qualities as a man rendering him trusted and esteemed. Fraternally our subject is affiliated with North Powder Lodge No. 109, W. of W. His marriage was solemnized on August 5, 1875, in Tooele county, Utah, the lady being Miss Susan Tanner, who some years later died, leaving three children: Violet, wife of Henry Parder resides at home; Laura, now Mrs. Lane Goff, and a resident of Baker county; Letta, wife of H. H. Wilson, living on Beard creek. In the fall of 1883 our subject again married the lady of his choice being Miss Grace, daughter of James B. and Jane Wilson, of Union county and to this union four children have been born: Edna, Maude, Nellie and Ethel, all at home.
