Co. of Chicago. Transcribed by: W. David Samuelsen HANER W. LEE Mr. Lee was born in Michigan on July 22, 1859, being the son of Daniel and Betsey (Weathernax) Lee, the latter having died when he was a child, and his father in 1890. He received his education in Jackson, his native state, and in 1872 came with his father to this county. In 1890 he took a homestead, where he now lives, in the Lower Powder river valley, fifteen miles northeast from Baker City. He he devotes his attention to farming and raising blooded stock, mostly Short Horn Durham. He also buys and sells stock a great deal and operates a creamery, all of which occupies him continuously; but in each particular line he manifests commendable skill and every detail is cared for with such promptness and all is supervised with such wisdom that success is constantly his portion to enjoy. In addition to these duties he finds time to give the attention demanded of every wide awake citizen to the affairs of state and government, and especially is he active in education matters, having given good service on the school boards for a number of years. The marriage of Mr. Lee and Miss Olive, daughter of Samuel and Jane (Moore) Colwell, was solemnized on January 1, 1888. They have one daughter, Minnie P., and they have also adopted a child, Owen M. Mr. Lee's father was distinguished by his service in the Indian wars in an early day in Michigan and adjacent regions, while in political matters he was no less prominent, having been sheriff of Eaton county, in Michigan, for several terms, and also rendering other commendable service of a public nature. Our subject affiliated himself with the I.O.O.F., Union Lodge, No. 39, of Union county in 1884, and he is also a member of the Modern Woodmen of America, Lodge No. 5326, of Baker City, and of the Fraternal Union of America. In all of these social relations Mr. Lee is pleasantly distinguished and very popular among his fellows, while his whole life is fraught with kindness and industrious action and commendable achievements. --end--
