Co. of Chicago. page 372 FRANK LENTZ, one of the most thrifty and prosperous farmers and stockmen in the county, of which he has long been an esteemed and honored citizen, is a native of Keokuk county, Iowa, born July 22, 1867, the son of William and Mary (Boyd) Lentz, likewise natives of that state. When about seven years old he accompanied the remainder of the family on the long journey across the wide waste of plain and over the mountain barriers to Baker City, in the vicinity of which his father took up land. He grew to man's estate in the county, receiving his educational discipline at the James schoolhouse. As soon as he became of age he took up three hundred and twenty acres of government land in Sumpter valley, six miles east of Sumpter, and engaged in farming and stock-raising, an industry to which he has devoted the efforts of his life ever since. As a natural result of assiduity and thrift he has achieved a very enviable success and is now in possession of an excellent farm of generous proportions, well improved and stocked and supplied with all needed buildings and machinery. In 1899 he purchased eighty acres to miles east of Auburn, where he now lives, controlling operations upon his farm and the one in the valley. He raises hay and grain principally and keeps about fifty head of cattle and some horses. On October 5, 1890, Mr. Lentz married Miss Mary, daughter of William and Rebecca (Smith) Graham, natives of Missouri, pioneers of this state of 1862 and residents now of Boise, Idaho. To their union has been born one child, Harry F. Mr. Lentz's father lives in Sumpter, but his mother died in 1887.
