Co. of Chicago. page 297 Charles L. Low Mr. Low was born on the parental homestead, seven miles west and little north of Express, on September 7, 1871, being the son of Leonard and Malinda V. (Moss) Low. He attended the local public schools and for a time enjoyed the advantages of the graded schools in Baker City, then worked at home, acquiring a knowledge of farming and stock raising, of inestimable value to him in after life. For about a decade he has been engaged in this dual occupation on his own account, achieving a very enviable success. He now has a very well improved place, supplied with all needed buildings, fences and other equipments and stocked with quite a herd of cattle and some horses. His energy and good judgement, coupled with an intimate knowledge of his business, have enabled him to win success in his calling, and his integrity and many other good qualities as a man have gained him the confidence and good will of those who know him. On August 17, 1898, in Baker county, Oregon, our subject married Miss Lyda, daughter of William and Ann C. Stewart, of Marshalltown, Iowa, and to their union has been born one child, Frederick C. Mr. Low's father was a very early pioneer of Oregon, having emigrated from the state of Maine in 1859. Eighteen hundred and sixty-two is the date of his location in Baker county, and here his home was until May 20, 1893, when he passed away to the great beyond. Our subject's mother is living in Baker City at present.
