Co. of Chicago, page 228 EDWARD B. McDANIEL, M.D. Our subject is a native of the great commonwealth in which he is now living, the town of his birth being, Cove, Union county, and the date March 19, 1873. He grew to early manhood there, acquiring his preliminary education in the public schools and in Leighton Academy. In the fall of 1889 he started to Beaumont Medical College, of St. Louis, Missouri, from which institution he graduated in 1892. His medical education was further augmented during the summer following by hospital practice and in the fall he entered Jefferson Medical College, of Philadelphia, and from this institution he also received a degree in the spring of 1893. A year was then spent in study in various eastern hospitals, after which our subjected returned to his native town and began practice. Shortly afterward he went to Portland, where he practiced with Dr. A. C. Smith until 1897, which year is the date of his advent to Baker City. His skill and ability, the natural result of careful and long continued training, were speedily recognized, and he now has one of most extensive practices enjoyed in the city. During the first years of his residence here he served as county physician, and at the present time he is chief physician and surgeon of the St. Elizabeth hospital of Baker City. He maintains an active membership in both the State and the American Medicial Societies. Our subject is also a very enthusiastic worker in the Masonic fraternity, belonging to the Consistory, the Temple, the Shrine and in fact all the branches of Masonry. Several times he represented the subordinate bodies to which he belongs in the grand lodge. Dr. McDaniel is also exalted ruler of the local organization of the B.P.O.E. (Benevelont Protective Order of Elks). He examines for the Massachusetts Mutual, the New York Mutual, the Pacific Mutual and other insurance companies.
