There he worked on the farm with his father, and also attended school during the school seasons until he was eleven years of age, when the family removed to near Marysville, Missouri, where they lived during the Civil War, and they experienced some stirring times and thrilling adventures. In 1869 they emigrated to Wilson county, Kansas, and continued there farming until 1881, when he came with mule teams across the plains and located twelve miles north from Baker City, buying a ranch and remaining there until 1889. Then he located his present ranch, five miles northwest from Unity, where he has resided since, giving himself to the improvement of the same and general farming and stockraising. He has now a very comfortable home and a goodly holding in various other property. The marriage of Mr. Moore and Miss Rosina S., daughter of William and Mary Stingley, was celebrated at Whiteville, Missouri, on October 15, 1867, and they have become the parents of six children: Hester A., wife of Franklin McCullough; John W.; Thomas E.; Ella, wife of John Powell; Lettie J.; Bessie R. Mrs. Moore was called from the scenes of life to the world beyond on May 1, 1900, and her demise was universally mourned. Mr. Moore's father was a soldier in the Civil war, enlisting in the Missouri Volunteers, in 1861, and saw much service in battles and skirmishes. He was honorably discharged at the close of the war, and then moved to Elk county, Kansas where he died in 1881. The mother is still living in the old home place in Kansas.
