PIERCE, Jr. Our subject is the son of Royal and Elizabeth (Turk) Pierce, natives respectively of Vermont and Sussex, England. The father came to this county in 1862 and four years later was admitted to the practice of law and in 1879 went to Idaho, where he resides now, being one of the leading practitioners of the entire county. The mother came to this country in 1850, and settled in Wisconsin, where on December 18, 1853, she married Mr. Royal Pierce. They came to this county, crossing the plains with horse teams. In 1885 she took a homestead where Royal, Jr. is now living. She also owns property in other places and a residence on East street, in Baker City, where she now lives. To her and her husband have been born the following children: Lila, buried in Wisconsin; Augustus, also buried there; James A., buried in Baker City; Abel J., lives at Pocatello, Idaho; Martha H., wife of S. D. Sturgle; Nellie H., wife of J. A. Wilson; W. D., single, at Cornucopia; Mary E., wife of T. B. Perkins; Royal A., Jr., single. Our subject has demonstrated his ability as an agriculturist and stock raiser and takes rank among the leaders in that industry in this section. His faithfulness and integrity and real moral worth have won for him the esteem and confidence of the entire community and his life of unsullied character and uprightness has fully deserved these encomiums. --End--
