Co. of Chicago. page 233 GEORGE RIZOR Our subject was born in Holmes county, Ohio, September 3, 1837, his parents being Michael and Sarah Rizor. He received such educational advantages as the public schools of the place and period afforded, but it must be confessed that these were painfully meager. At the age of fifteen he removed to Jefferson county, Iowa, where he lived for several years, thereafter going to Pawnee county, Nebraska, his business in all these being farming mostly. In 1875 he emigrated to Baker county, Oregon, and in due time he located on a farm on Alder creek, six miles west of Express, where we now find him. In 1878 he was absent from his home for a while with General Howard in his pursuit of Chief Joseph. Mr. Rizor is the owner of a fine, rich, well improved farm and is achieving a very enviable success in his pursuit of the basic art of agriculture and in stock raising. He is one of the thrifty and successful farmers of his neighborhood, as he is one of its most esteemed citizens. He takes some interest in mining and has some properties of great promise. Public spirited and actively interested in all matters of general concern, Mr. Rizor is especially solicitous that the cause of education be promoted in his neighborhood, and this solicitude has found expression in his serving for the past decade and a half as director of his district. The marriage of our subject was solemnized in Jefferson county, Iowa, September 1, 1861, Miss Sarah Batten becoming his wife at that time, and to this union nine children have been born, namely: Michael, of Baker City; Benjamin C., living near home; John, of North Powder River; Wesley, of Geiser, Oregon; Anna, deceased; Lewis, deceased; H. J., at home; Ella, deceased; and Nellie, at home. --End--
