JOHN ROHNER On April 26, 1865, near the eternal snows of the world famous Alps, was born the subject of this sketch and there he spent the first eight years of his earthly life, at the end of which time he was brought by his parents to southern Utah, where they remained for two years and then removed to southern Nevada, in which place they resided until 1881. At that date they brought horses to Wingville, this county, and soon our subject settled where we now find him, about eight miles northwest from Baker City. Here, in partnership with his brother-in-law, G. R. Hodgins, mention of who is made in sketch immediately preceding, is engaged in farming and stock raising. During the interim from 1887 to 1893, our subject was engaged with Mr. Hodgins in the butcher and grocery business in Wingville, but at the last date they sold this business and engaged as has been said. Thrift and industry are manifest in all the affairs of Mr. Rohner and his skill and wisdom displayed in the art of tilling the soil is quite commendable. He is at the present time discharging the duties of justice of the peace of his district, the same being done with ability and straightforwardness. He has also been for a good many years clerk of the school board, as well as holding other positions of trust. The marriage of Mr. Rohner and Miss Fannie R., daughter of William and Lydia B. Ward, was solemnized in Skamokawa, Washington, on November 18, 1888, and to them have been born four children; William H., aged ten years; Anna P., seven years old; Charles F., four years of age; Archie, who has passed three years in this life. Mr. Rohner is a member of the I.O.O.F., Wingville Lodge, No. 68, and also of the W. of W., Lodge, No. 68, and also affiliates with the Methodist church, South, and demonstrates, both by precept and practice, his interest in his faith. Mr. Rohner's father died while enroute to this county, his his mother still resides at Wingville. The family consists of the following children; Trena, wife of J. R. Hodgins; Jacob, Jr.; John; Louisa, now Mrs. William Hindman; August; Emil; Freda, wife of Charles Haskill; Godfrey. --End--
