Co. of Chicago. page 231 LEE STEWART The enterprising and industrious young agriculturist was born in Baker City on March 5, 1871, son of John and Barbara A. Stewart, who came to this country across the plains in 1864, making the entire journey with ox teams from Sioux City, Iowa. In Stewart's second addition to Baker City, Mr. L. Stewart first saw the light and there he lived until 1890, receiving meanwhile a good education in the public schools of the city, being a graduate of the high school. He first embarked in raising cattle and in 1894 sold his entire interests in that business and commenced his present occupation, farming and threshing. he owns in partnership with his brother twelve hundred acres of hay and grain land and in addition to the proper operation of this they are running a fine threshing outfit. He is one of the leading young men of the county and has displayed commendable energy and ability in his operations, demonstrating himself a native son in which his county may justly take pride. He is affiliated with the I.O.O.F., Baker City Lodge, No. 25, and with the W. of W., Wingville Camp, No. 343. The marriage of Mr. Stewart and Miss Edith, daughter of Henry and Sophia Lammert, and a native of Nebraska, occured on June 24, 1900. --End--
