THOMPSON William N. was born in Leasburgh, Caswell county, North Carolina, on April 17, 1858, to Joseph R. and Minerva Thompson who removed with ther son to Dallas county, arkansas, while he was still an infant. In that place he remained until he was sixteen years of age, gaining meanwhile a good common school education. At the age mentioned he was led to make the adventurous journey across the plains, using mule teams, and settle din Oregon City, remaining there for six years and then he came to this county. His first occupation here was mining for Carpenter and Jones on their placer properties for eight years, after which he engaged in farming, meeting with good success, and five years he was called to take charge of the county poor farm. In this capacity he has been constantly occupied since and it is with great credit to himself, for in every respect he has given entire satisfaction, having demeaned himself in a very exemplary manner in all of this arduous service. The marriage of Mr. Thompson and Miss Eva, daughter of James and Mary Hutton, and a native of Iowa, was solemnized on November 14, 1883, in this county. The fruit of this union is as follows: Clifford; Sydney, who died at the age of eight years; Roy; William. Mr. Thompson affiliates with the I.O.O.F., Wingville Lodge, No. 69, and also witht he Encampment, NO. 7, at Baker City, and with the W. of W. Lodge No. 343. He is a member of the Methodist church, south, and displays activity in the interests of his faith that manifests a genuine spirit of true Christianity, while his life has been such that he is highly esteemed by all who know him.
