Co. of Chicago. page 270 Edwin A. Whittier The parents of Mr. Whittier were Newman and Sarah (Hill), both natives of the Pine Tree state (Maine), where the father died, but the mother is still living in Huntington, this state, and our subject was born in Augusta in 1855. When he had reached the age of nineteen years he left the parental roof and began life's activities for himself, engaging first as a hand on a ranch, and then shortly afterward we find him in Salem, this state. In the vicinity of that city he worked and practiced economy until in 1880, when he had sufficient funds to warrant him purchasing a ranch, which was done, the selection being where he now resides in Eagle valley. Here in partnership with his brother, he operates a sheep ranch and they are having very flattering success in the manipulation of the same. The favorite breeds raised by them being Delaino and Merino. It is with pleasure that we are able to announce that everything around the premises of these stockmen manifests them to be up to date and enterprising in every particular and they are reaping the proper reward of such care and thrift. The marriage of Mr. Whittier and Miss Alice Shelton was solemnized in 1888,and to them has been born one child, Edna. Mr. Whittier is held in high esteem by all of his acquaintances and he has won the confidence of the entire community.
