GILBERT PASSES TO THE GREAT BEYOND The death last night, about 7:30 o'clock, November 27, 1906, in his room in the Lynndale block of W. H. Gilbert, banker and manufacturer came as a surprise to most of his friends. Mr. Gilbert was 56 years of age last February. He was born in the middle west and came to Baker City from Dayton, Washington, six years ago. He was a member of the Masonic order which will hav echarge of the funeral to be announced later. The deceased leaves a wife, one son, Frederick, a daughter Jessie and a daughter Mrs. L. M. Hoyt, of La Grande, the son in law was with Mr. Gilbert at the time of his death. Three months ago Mr. Gilbert buried his son John, of Prairie City. It is understood that he has a brother in Eugene and one or more brothers in Minnesota. W. H. Gilbert was one of the progressive citizens of Baker county. He founded the Blue Mountain Iron Works and upon selling out that institution three or four years ago bought the flouring mills on Rock Creek, to which establishment he has given most of his time since. A director in the new Baker Loan and Trust Company, his business advice has been felt in the community. He will be remembered as an honest man and staunch friend. Uremic poisoning was the direct cause of Mr. Gilbert's death although he has been suffering for some months from cancer of the stomach. 30 Nov 1906 Funeral Today The funeral of the late W. H. Gilbert will take place at 2 o'clock this afternoon from the First Baptist church, under the auspices of the Masons.
