Mrs. Metha Hartless

  Funeral services for Metha D. Hartless, 89, who died June 28 at Forest Grove,
were held Monday July 3 at Prickett’s Mortuary in Forest Grove, with Rev. George
Milne officiating.  Committal rites were offered by Rev. Bert Henderson of
Philomath at Mt. Union cemetery at Philomath.
   Mrs. Hartless was born August 19, 1871, at Mosback, Illinois, and later came
with her parents to the Philomath area.  She was married to Eldridge Hartless on
December 23, 1889.  He preceded her in death in 1925.
   She was a cook on the campus of Oregon State University from 1925 to 1940
when she moved to the Buston area with her daughter and son-in-law.
   Besides her daughter, Mrs. Charles (Emily) Staley of Forest Grove, she is
survived by a foster daughter, Mrs. George Schanbel of Portland, one grandson,
and two brothers in California.
   Mrs. Hartless was a member of the Social Rebekas Lodge No. 73 at Philomath.

Foster child was likely Barbara Dittmer, born about 1917 in Alabama, shown with
Charles Staley, his wife, Emily Staley (daughter of Metha and Eldridge
Hartless), and Metha in the 1930 Census, Corvallis, Benton Co., OR.
