DeSmet s return with 5 Jesuits and 6 Sisters: Aug. 5, at Fort Vancouver. Aug. 17, at St. Paul s. 1844 Sept., Founding of St. Francis Xavier s on the Willamette. 1844 December (?), Fr. Vercruysee, S.J., builds St. Louis Church at Grand Prairie. 1845 Fr. De Vos, S.J., at Oregon City, supervises finishing of St. John s Church. (Fr. Demers had started it.) 1845 June, Fr. Nobili, S.J., gave retreat at Fort Vancouver. 1846 Feb. 8, Fr. De Vos dedicates St. John s Church at Oregon City. 1846 Bishop Blanchett takes over St. John s, Jesuits remain. 1847 St. Ann s near Pendleton founded by diocesan clergy. 1848 Fr. Vercruysse, S.J., leaves St. Louis Church. 1849 Jesuits withdraw from active missionary work on Oregon s Willamette Mission. 1853 Jesuits leave Oregon City. 1854 Orders from Jesuit General to sell Willamette property. 1854 Aug. 1, Rocky Mt. and California Missions united under one superior, attached to Turin Province. 1858 March 1, Rocky Mt. and California Missions separated each with own superior, under the Turin Province. 1868 Sept. 26, Willamette property sold to Nieblers and Schultheis. 1883 Name of St. Ann s Mission changed to St. Joseph by Father Conrardy. 1884 St. Mary s, Pendleton, founded by diocesan priest, Father Conrardy. 1888 May (some sources say July 8), Fr. Grassi, S.J., arrived to take over St. Joseph s Mission, near Pendleton. 1893 St. Joseph s Mission name changed to St. Andrew s. 1897 Sept. 1, Fr. Garrand, S.J., arrives to take over St. Mary s Church, Pendelton, for Jesuits. 1905 June 30, Fr. Feusi, S.J., arrives to take over Klamath Falls, started Church 5 days later, dedicated June 30, 1907. 1906-Father Feusi, S.J., started a money drive for a church at Lakeview. 1907 Father Butler, S.J., takes over St. Mary s, Corvallis, (church built 1860-1861). 1907 May 10, Father Tomkin, S.J., took over Beaverton parish (original church at Cedar Springs called St. Anthony s, built in 1878). 1907 August 30, Fr. Vasti, S.J., arrives at Lakeview, 1st permanent pastor, buys house on Slash street, adopts it for 1st church. 1907 August 15, California and Rocky Mt. Missions united, headquarters in Portland. 1907 Sept. 7, land purchased for St. Ignatius parish, Portland, 1st Mass in rented hall by Father Dillon on November 24, 1907. 1908 May 15, construction on St. Ignatius church and school begun. 1908 Sept. 20, dedication of Church school building. 1908 Sept. 21, opening of St. Ignatius parish school, Holy Names Sisters teaching. 1908 June 28, Father Villa, S.J., arrived to take over St. Michael s Church, Portland. This church was first a German Mission 1890; an Italian parish 1894. Cornerstone of church, November 24, 1901. 1909 July, Fr. Dimier, S.J., took over Siltez Mission, (St. Mary s Siletz and Sacred Heart, Newport). 1909 Aug. 17, Fr. Mackin, S.J., took over Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Ashland, (church built here in 1887). 1909 Provincial s residence built on Jesuit property near St. Ignatius, Portland. 1909 Sept. 8, establishment of California Province, headquarters in Portland. 1910 Jesuits return Corvallis parish to Archbishop. 1911 Aug. 13, Jesuits return Beaverton parish to Archbishop. 1911 Fr. O Malley, S.J., at Lakeview, starts new Church dedicated to St. Patrick, church finished in 1912, dedicated July 14, 1912. 1912 July, Jesuits return Ashland church to Archbishop. 1912 Sept. 8, cornerstone for new St. Mary s in Pendleton laid. 1913 July, Jesuits return Siletz Mission to Archbishop. 1913 Nov. 3, Jesuits return Lakeview parish to Bishop. 1916-Jan. 27, Jesuits return Klamath to Bishop. 1916-Dec. 17, dedication of new St. Mary s, Pendleton. 1930 Dec. 25, Rocky Mt. Vice-Province established. 1930 Oct. 30, land purchased at Sheridan for Novitiate. 1931 June, first building erected at Sheridan, blessed July 31. 1931 July 29, first Novices arrive at Sheridan, from Los Gatos. 1932 Feb. 2, Oregon Province established, headquarters at Portland. 1932 April 13, work begun on permanent Novitiate building at Sheridan. 1933 June 23, 1st Mass in new building at Sheridan, building occupied. 1933 July 28, work begun on D Arcy Memorial chapel at Sheridan. 1934 June 29, Novitiate chapel blessed. 1946-August 9, McKenzie property in Portland purchased for Provincial s residence. Renovated during autumn. Officially occupied on February 3, 1947. 1947 Loyola Retreat House opened in Portland; 1st retreat begun, June 27. 1950 May 21, ground broken for new St. Ignatius Church. 1950 Sept. 15, Van Hoomissen residence purchased; renovated for St. Ignatius Rectory. 1951 May 21, new St. Ignatius Church dedicated. 1955 June 13, contract awarded for new wings and bricking at Sheridan Novitiate. 1955 August 1, new Rectory begun at St. Mary s, Pendleton. 1955 August 16, property purchased for Jesuit High, Portland. 1956 April 10, groundbreaking ceremonies for Jesuit High. 1956-September 10, Jesuit High opened, 90 students, 8 faculty members. 1957 February 1, Oregon-Jesuit building adjoining Campion Hall occupied.
