Clarke Publishing Company Endowed with courage, energy and determination, Burr E. Tatro provided the funds for his education and has made his opportunities count for the utmost. As an educator he established an enviable reputation and is now numbered among the talented attorneys of Oregon City, also filling the office of justice of the peace. A native of Minnesota, he was born in Polk county in 1890 and is a son of Henry C. and Viola D. (Courtright) Tatro, who came to Oregon in 1903, settling at Hood River. The father won success as a realtor and broker and is now living retired in Portland. Leaving Minnesota when a boy of thirteen, Burr E. Tatro continued his studies at Hood River. While a pupil in the McMinnville high school he was employed as a janitor and became interested in athletics at that time. He paid the expenses of his course in the Behnke-Walker Business College, a Portland institution, from which he was graduated in 1909, and also worked his way through Willamette University, which awarded him the degree of LL. B. in 1913, being admitted to Oregon state bar in June of the same year. Mr. Tatro was one of the best players on the college baseball team and also participated in the track sports. For three years he was an instructor in the Behnke-Walker Business College and in 1915-16 had charge of the business department in the Oregon City high school. During 1916-17 he organized the business department in the McMinnville high school and then returned to his former position in the Oregon City high school, with which he was connected until 1920. In the latter year the management of the Oregon Agricultural College offered to place him at the head of its typing department but he could not accept as he was unable to leave at that time. From 1920 until 1924 he was at The Dalles and had charge of the commercial department in the high school. While teaching he became well known as an athletic coach, displaying a special aptitude for the work, and he had two champion basketball teams, in addition to which he acted as referee for many baseball, football and basketball games and track events. During his career as an educator Mr. Tatro had been teaching law. In 1924 he began the practice of law in Oregon City and has already won a lucrative clientele. He devotes much thought to the preparation of his cases and is felicitous and clear in argument. At Yamhill, Oregon, Mr. Tatro was married in 1913 to Miss Florence E. Warmington, a native of Wisconsin, and they have become the parents of four children: Marjorie and Dick, who were born in Oregon City; and Frances and Ruth, natives of The Dalles. Mr. Tatro was elected justice of the peace in 1926 and has thoroughly systematized the court records and accounts, thus expediting the work. He carefully ascertains the facts of each case brought before his tribunal and has clearly demonstrated that he is the right man for the office, displaying fairness in the treatment of all cases. Mr. and Mrs. Tatro are devout Methodists and take a keen interest in religious matters. He is treasurer of the church, one of its trustees and a teacher in the Sunday school. Along professional lines he is affiliated with the Clackamas County and Oregon State Bar Associations, and his civic spirit is expressed through his identification with the Chamber of Commerce. For two terms he was president of the Clackamas County Rod & Gun Club and is now vice president of the State Sportsmen's Association. Mr. Tatro is a young man of exceptional worth and possesses those qualities which insure success in any vocation of life.
