Seely was held here iin the M.E Church Tuesday afternoon,Sept 21,with some two hundred of the relatives present Rev Alfred Bates,pastor of the church,presided.A fine program was presented by Mrs Mabel Brobst and Mrs Oscar larson.Reading of the marriage ceremony by Mr Bates,music and singing by Vida Seely,Sherman Seely,Alfred bates,Elmer Seely and Dwight Seely The wedding gifts were very beautiful and a number of them were presented.Following the program,a fine lunch was served in the basement of the church in which all participated.Following the lunch many songs,jokes and speeches were offered by Mrs Bates,Vida Seely,Sherman Seely and J.E Moreback. Mrs Melinda Seely(the bride) responded by thanking all who had contributed to the program,which has given her husband and herself so much joy on their golden wedding day Mr and Mrs Seely have made their home here all but two years of their married life,these two years being spent in Kansas immmediately following thier wedding,which was performed at the home of the bride near Newberg.Mrs Seely who was a Hall,is now sixty seven years of age and is as spry as can be. George B Seely,who is now seventy five years of age,came originally from Springfield,Illinois,when eight years old settled near Oregeon City.From there the family moved to Canby,later moving to Wilsonville.They now live ona portion of the ols Seely homestead near here. Mr Seely had six brothers living,and two brothers dead.there were eight boys and one girl in the family.Most of the children settled in this neighborhood and the descendats number in the hundreds. It would be hard indeed to find a couple more devoted to each other than Mr and Mrs Seely.For fifty long years they struggled with the cares of life,side by side faithfully and cheerfully.Their friends and acquaintances are very numerous. Mr Seely has not been in the best of health the past year,and although he enjoyed the program immensely it was quita a tax on him.
