J. Clarke Publishing Company As a specialist in the treatment of diseases of the eye, ear, nose and throat, Dr. John F. Barton, of Longview, has no superiors in this section of the state and has therefore built up a large and remunerative practice. A native of Secor, Woodford county, Illinois, he was born on the 26th of June, 1890, and is a son of Louis E. and Meta (Hart) Barton, both now deceased. His father, who was of English and Scotch ancestry, was born in Coal Valley, Illinois, and the mother, who came of sturdy old Pennsylvania Dutch stock, was born in Madison, Wisconsin. John F. Barton received his early education in the public schools and pursued his classical studies in the University of Iowa. He matriculated in the medical department of Washington University, in St. Louis, Missouri, and was graduated with the degree of Doctor of Medicine in 1911. He served one year as interne in the St. Louis City Hospital and during 1914-15 was interne as specialist in the Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital in Chicago. He entered upon the practice of his profession as a specialist in South Chicago, remaining there until May, 1917, when he enlisted in the United States Medical Corps. He was assigned to Embarkation Hospital Eleven, at Hoboken, New Jersey, where he remained throughout the duration of the war, and was honorably discharged in August, 1919, with the rank of first lieutenant. Dr. Barton then located in Astoria, Oregon, where he remained three years, and in 1922 went to Kelso, Cowlitz county, Washington. Later he came to Longview and has continued in the practice here to the present time, having well equipped offices in the Washington Gas and Electric building. He has done splendid work in his special field of effort and commands the respect of his professional colleagues, as well as the confidence of the public. He is a member of the medical staff of Longview Memorial Hospital. On May 22, 1917, in Calumet, Michigan, Dr. Barton was united in marriage to Miss Alexandra Olson, who was born in Bessemer, Michigan, June 22, 1887, and is a daughter of Carl Eric and Sophia (Karin) Olson, both natives of Sweden, from which country they came to the United States in 1882 and 1880 respectively and were married at Hancock, Michigan. Dr. and Mrs. Barton are the parents of a son, John, born December 15, 1922. The Doctor is a democrat in his political affiliation and was elected the first treasurer of the city of Longview. He is a member of the Knights of Pythias, the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, the Rotary Club, the Longview Country Club and the Cowlitz County Country Club and was the first president of the Kelso Rotary Club.
