He said that a horse which was cut open after it died near his place, was found to have its intestines so impacted that death was the only possible result. It is evident that the freezing created a poison of some sort that was fatal to many animals. And the shortage of feed this spring caused many sheep and cows to be turned on to the grass before the new growth was ready.
