Central, Pastor Scott Dement will officiate. Interment will follow at the Coquille Pioneer Cemetery. Viewing will be on Wednesday Sept. 16th from 2-6 pm and Thursday the 17th from 9-5 at Amling/Schroeder Funeral Service – Coquille Chapel. Virginia Selma Miller was born January 30, 1924 to Perl Frank Miller and Louisa Bonnell Miller in Delta, Colorado. She died September 8, 2009 in Myrtle Point. As an infant, she moved to Oregon and spent her early childhood on Rice Creek, near Roseburg, where she meet her life-long friend, Wao (Rice) Sevier. Many stories were told of her days on the “Rock Farm”. She later moved to Coquille where she spent most of her life. She married John H. Shilling in June 1943. Two children were born of this marriage. She later married W. Ralph Briery in March of 1984 who preceded her in death in 1998. She returned to school later in life and received a business degree. Employment included fullcycle bookkeeping and later she managed the Oregon Motor Vehicles office in Coquille for many years. She enjoyed beading, making jewelry for family and friends. During her life she studied her Native American heritage and wrote poetry. As a 4-H leader she helped youth develop their skills and talents. She was a member of the Coquille Nazarene Church and loved to work for the Lord. She is survived by her daughter, Candace Coon of Culver, Oregon son and daughter-in- law, John R. and Jen Shilling of Sugar Land, Texas and step-son Jeffery Briery of Southern California, grandchildren Sheri Coon of Portland, OR. John (Jay) Shilling of Springfield, Oregon, and Jana (and Chris)Toney of North Bend, OR greatgrandchildren Brenden and Kyla Toney both of North Bend, a step-brother Patrick Carey of Arkansas, a close cousin Myles Bonnell of Redmond, Oregon and dear friends Kenneth and Margery Deaver of Coquille. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Dale Coon. Arrangements are under the direction of Amling/Schroeder Funeral Service – Coquille Chapel, 396-3846.
