Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Carpenter were held Wednesday, March 25, in the 
afternoon at the Campbell mortuary, followed by burial in Sunset cemetery. The 
Rev. Neil Barnes was in charge. 
Emma Lizetta Fair was born Dec. 10, 1851, near Battle Creek, Mich., and 
married Andrew Carpenter, of Bedford, Mich., Sept. 14, 1879. The couple had 
two daughters, Addie and Jessie, and reared five foster children, who were 
nephews and nieces, James, Rollie, Nellie, Fred and Sadie. 
After living in Michigan until she was 83, Mrs. Carpenter decided to fulfill 
her life-long ambition to see the Pacific coast. She moved to Coos Bay with 
the family seven years ago, settling on Daniels creek with Mr. and Mrs. Rodney 
Post and Rollie Carpenter, with whom she had lived many years.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Clara McGary, and two brothers, Harrison and 
William Fair, a step daughter, Nettie Fair, in Michigan; a daughter, Jessie 
Sears of Toledo, Or., two granddaughters, Mildred Van Antwerp and Frances 
Christy, of Glendale, Cal., a grandson, Stewart Sears, Portland, and a great 
granddaughter, Karen Louise Sears, Richmond, Cal., three foster sons James, 
Fred and Winslow, of Battle Creek, Mich., Rollie Carpenter, Marshfield, two 
daughters, Nellie Dinwiddie, of Michigan, and Sadie Post, Marshfield, and 
granddaughter, Jean Post.
