Sanford, prominent Coquille attorney who died Tuesday at Mast Hospital, Myrtle Point, will be held Friday June 2, at the Schroeder Funeral Chapel at 2 p.m. The body will lie in state Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Friday morning from 10 a.m. to 12 a.m. Oliver Sanford was born at Turner, Oregon, April 9, 1879. In 1888 he came to Coquille with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.D. Sanford, and has resided here since that date. He married Florence Walstrom in 1910. Admitted to the bar in 1905, he was associated for a time with the A.J. Sherwood law office. He entered the First National Bank of Coquille in 1906, becoming a stockholder and serving as cashier and first vice-president until the bank was purchased by the first National Bank of Portland in 1937. At that time he opened the law office where he maintained his practice until his recent illness. Interested in civic affairs, he served on the city council and was a member of the Coquille Chamber of Commerce. For many years he was city treasurer and school clerk. His special interest was the Coquille City Library which he helped found. For thirty-four years he served as treasurer on the library board. He was past master of Chadwick Lodge, No. 63, A.F. & A.M., a past patron of Beulah chapter, No. 6, O.E.S., and a past noble grand of I.O.O.F. lodge, No. 53. He is survived by his widow, Florence Sanford, and one brother, C.J. Sanford of Ashland.
