He left property, primarily real estate, in Medford and Butte Falls. The Medford property was a rooming house he was running at the time he died. The Butte Falls property was a small house in the town. The document gives legal descriptions of both properties and the amount of appraisal of the Medford house. Mr. Purdin, a Medford attorney who is the executor, goes on to state the difficulties he is having with the Butte Falls property and its tenant. The heir to the property is Donald Karnes, age about 12 years, living near the town of Rogue River, Oregon. Edgar Haymond, whose true name is Edwin Haymond, is the minor stepson of Mr. Karnes, who died the preceding year, and whose heir is his father, but whose whereabouts are unknown, and Edwin is not part of these proceedings. Donald has been adopted by D. P. Magerle and his wife as their son, and Mr. Magerle has been appointed as Donald's guardian. The document describes in some detail the small amount of proceeds from the estate and the difficulties the executor has had in this regard. He is now coming before the court to ask for permission to sell the real estate and pay any bills due. (Signed) M. Purdin, 30 March 1918 Transcriber's note: Donald Karnes and Edgar Haymond had the same mother, Gladys Heckathorn. Gladys's sister, Ida, married into the Magerle family. At the time of D. G. Karnes's death, Gladys was dead and Donald was living with his grandmother, Isabella Devinney Heckathorn. Another document in this probate file, which is not quoted here, states that Edgar, at the time about age 16, is being sent to live at the Odd Fellows' Home in Portland. It is not known what happened to Edgar or his father.
