S. E. Day, the 13 year old son of examination-County Judge Silas J. Day, of Jacksonville, committed suicide by blowing the top of his head off with an old musket Friday morning, Sept. 30th. The boy had been attending school, and Thursday played truant and went to the Central Point fair. His father had promised to allow him to attend the fair Friday with the family, but learning of his running away the day before, thought to punish him by compelling the boy to remain home. The boy then wanted to go hunting, but his mother forbade, and gave him work to do at home. Soon the boy was missed, and search revealed him at the barn near the house dead. He had taken an old-fashioned musket, placed the muzzle near his head and, discharging the weapon with his foot, literally shot his head off.
