She was attacked with a slight stroke of paralysis just one week before her death, which occurred Sunday evening. The attack became acute and grew worse until she succumbed. The deceased was born on the old home of her father, the late James Pankey, June 20, 1863, where she has resided all her life, excepting two years she resided with her husband, Robert Birch, in California. She and Mr. Birch were married three years ago last Christmas in this county, and soon after left to engage in mining in the Sacramento valley. They returned to the hold home last year to reside. Her father, the late James Pankey, came to Oregon from Illinois in 1853, settling in Polk county, and came to this county in 1859 and settled on this estate, where he and his wife resided till their death several years ago. On their death, Mrs. Birch acquired the old homestead. She leaves two brothers and two sisters - Louis Pankey of Ashland, Thomas Pankey of Sam's Valley, Mrs. James Fredenburg of Sam's Valley and Mrs. J. N. Smith of Central Point. Interment was made January 11, at Sam's Valley, Rev. Fredenburg of that place officiating.
