Medford (Oregon) Mail, Friday, 14 Sep 1900, City Happenings, p. 7, c. 2
The death of Mrs. Martha M. Paine, wife of C. H. Paine, which occurred in 
Medford Monday, has cast a gloom over the entire community. The lady had been 
ill for several months, and for the past five or six weeks had been seriously 
ill with typhoid fever, which, in conjunction with other maladies hastened her 
death. Deceased was nearly thirty-seven years of age and was born in Iowa. A 
little over two years ago she moved with her husband and children to Medford 
from Washington. She leaves to mourn her demise a husband and three children, 
the oldest child being twelve and the youngest seven, all girls. Funeral 
services were held from the family residence, in East Medford, on Wednesday 
morning at 10:30 o’clock. Interment in Odd Fellows cemetery. During the two 
years’ residence in Medford of deceased many warm friends were made, all of 
whom know the lady only as a kind, loving mother, a good neighbor and a true 
friend. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the bereaved husband 
and children.
